The province of Vlaams-Brabant
The Vlaamse Rand is part of the Province of Vlaams-Brabant.
This province has only been in existence since 1 January 1995, when the former bilingual province of Brabant was divided into Vlaams-Brabant and Waals Brabant. Flanders now consists of five provinces: West-Vlaanderen, Oost-Vlaanderen, Antwerpen, Limburg and Vlaams-Brabant. The capital of the province of Vlaams-Brabant is Leuven.
Provincial Council, delegation, governor.
The provincial council is the province’s ‘parliament’. It is elected every six years. The provincial council of Vlaams-Brabant has 84 members. They discuss and decide upon all matters of importance to the province. The executive body is the delegation, which is chaired by the governor. It has six members; the governor himself has no vote. |
