Language facilities
What are called ‘language facilities’ have been introduced in 6 Flemish municipalities around Brussels: Sint-Genesius-Rode, Wemmel, Linkebeek, Kraainem, Wezembeek-Oppem and Drogenbos. The official language there is Dutch, but their French-speaking inhabitants can – if they request it – receive certain administrative documents in French. The language facilities are intended to be a transitional measure to make it easier for French-speakers to integrate into a Dutch-speaking environment: the facilities give them the chance to adapt gradually to the Dutch-language character of the area they live in.
The six municipalities with these facilities are an integral part of the Dutch language area and of the federated entity of Flanders. |
