Sport in the Vlaamse Rand

De Gordel (The Belt)

The biggest sporting event in the Vlaamse Rand is de Gordel, a recreational cycling and walking route around Brussels. It is a family sports event that takes place on the first Sunday of every September. More than 10,000 Flemish people get to know the loveliest spots in Vlaams-Brabant as they cycle, walk, skate or mountain-bike around, while also enjoying additional musical entertainment.

De Gordel first took place in 1981. Its organisers wanted to let as many people as possible enjoy sport in a healthy manner and at the same time underline the Flemish character of the Rand.

Provincial Sports Department

The Province of Vlaams-Brabant has a Sports Department hich will answer all your questions about sports promotion, sports coaching, subsidies, logistical support, sports infrastructure, training and leadership training.

Bloso centres

Bloso is the Flemish Community’s sports department. Among other things it has 13 sports centres of its own all over Flanders. These Bloso centres are open to young and old, and to both beginners and top sportsmen and women. In Vlaams-Brabant, Bloso has sports centres in Hofstade and Liedekerke.

Sportimonium

At the Bloso domain in Hofstade you can visit the Sportimonium.
This sports museum illustrates the history of sport by means of unusual objects, posters, photos and TV and radio excerpts. You can also try out popular old Flemish sports such as skittles, archery and throwing horseshoes.
