Welfare in the Vlaamse Rand
Health and Welfare Department
The Health and Welfare Department of the Province of Vlaams-Brabant is active in the Vlaamse Rand too. This department coordinates joint ventures, gives advice and offers practical and financial support. It also has initiatives of its own, in the areas of youth assistance and family support, a policy for the old and care for the disabled.
You will find more information about the range of welfare services offered by the Province of Vlaams-Brabant here.
Childcare
For information about childcare in the Vlaamse Rand the best place is Kind en Gezin, a Flemish Government organisation. It does not itself organise any childcare, but offers support for both parents and carers, and monitors whether the care complies with the legal provisions.

General welfare centres (CAWs)
The general welfare centres are first-line services for everything concerning welfare provisions. Helpers listen to your question and look for a solution together with you. The twenty-seven CAWs in Flanders and Brussels offer a sympathetic ear, care and psycho-social guidance. You will find their details here.
Social Services Department (OCMW)
Every Flemish municipality has an OCMW that offers material, social, medical and psychological help. The OCMW has a social department and often runs old-people’s homes, service flats and local social service centres. It also distributes hot meals and organises household help, crisis care, homecare and help for families and the elderly. Your local council can give you more information about the OCMW in your municipality. |
